so, because I don't have Tuesday classes, I thought yesterday would be the perfect opportunity to go online, find something to do and just do it. so I went on 'time out london.com' which is this website that has all the restaurats, museums, etc. for london.
apparently there is a 'museum of brands, packaging and advertising' which has some new display called 'sweet sixities' and it has all these wrappers from candy/food from the sixties. So i, loving candy AND the sixties, decided i'd trek over to the Notting Hill Gate tube stop and venture out. I had looked up directions/street names beforehand, and brought my London A to Z street map, so you'd think it would have been easy to find.
One thing I already hate about London is how all the streets bend and wind, and its not like new york where you can just keep going and make a left and youre back where you started. Every street name has a little different variation in name, but it's just enough to get you lost. Looking online, the museum was on Coville Road, so I FINALLY make it there, and there's Coville Road, Coville Square, Coville Gardens, Coville Mews, etc. So i waunder around for a little bit, in the rain, finding only houses. I ask a police officer, who doesn't even know what I'm talking about, and has to wait for 2 of us coworkers to tell me where to go. I was then directed in a complete square...'go straight down this street to the right, make your first left, then make the second left, then make another left'...no thanks. So I then asked a cab driver, who ALSO didn't know what I was talking about. So, at this point, I just said 'screw it' and somehow found my way back to Portobello Road, ironically right in front of Hummingbird Bakery. So I took that as a sign and went in and got a cupcake.
then, my day of adventure continued when I thought I'd try to go to Harrod's just to see what it's all about. BIG MISTAKE. That place is WAY TOO MUCH TO TAKE. After picking up some souveneirs I wanted to see what this 'food hall' was all about, and like the rest of the store, WAY TOO MUCH TO TAKE...so I ditched.
So while my day of adventure may have been unsuccessful in that I didn't exactly find what I was looking for, i DID find this stationary store and bakery (hummingbird) that I have been told to go to, and picked up some cards/souveneirs, and some postcards to decorate my wall with.
Now I just have to find another adventure to keep me busy until my class tonight...

I can't imagine going all over a different country by myself. I have to use Mapquest to get me to a diner in Cranford on Sat. morn so I can meet a friend for b'fast!!
Just make sure you get back to square one safe and sound. Did you meet the Prince yet?
Love & Kisses, Aunt Maur
You are quite the adventurer lately. I bet you missed "compass-head" on your adventure. Maybe you should have brought "Cynthia" with you. I bet you brought your 3cameras along also.
xoxoxo

Dear Nic,
It sounds like you are having a good time, but be sure to get good grades instead of so much travelling.
I love you
